1.) Kijfhoek-Breda – Former Longest Passenger Train

Kijfhoek-Breda of the Netherlands is regarded for years as the world’s longest passenger train. It had 60 passenger cars and pulled by 1500 V DC locomotive.

World Record Holder: February 19, 1989

2.) Ghent-Oostende – Current Longest Passenger Train

Ghent-Oostende of Belgium grabbed the title for the longest passenger train more than 20 years ago. It has 70 passenger cars and pulled by one electro locomotive. It is 1,733 meters in length and weighed 2,786 tons.

World Record Holder: April 27, 1991

3.) Sishen-Saldanha – Former Longest Train on Iron Ore Railway

The previous title holder for the world’s longest train on iron ore railway is the Sishen-Saldanha. It is consists of 660 railcars and has a length of 7,300 meters with a weight of 69,393 tons. It is hauled by 16 locomotives.

4.) BHP – Current Longest Train on Iron Ore Railway

The BHP of Australia holds the record for the world’s longest train on iron ore railway. It consists of 682 wagons or cars and pulled by eight 6000 hp General Electric AC6000CW diesel-electric loco. It has a total length of 7,353 meters and is controlled by a single operator.

World Record Holder: June 21, 2001

5.) BNSF 2010 – Former Longest General Cargo Train

BNSE 2010 was the former longest general cargo train in the world with a total length f 3,030 meters.

6.) Union Pacific – Current Longest General Cargo Train

The Union Pacific of the United States is the current world record holder for the title of longest general cargo train. It has a total length of 5,500 meters with 295 container wagons and hauled by 9 diesel-electric locomotives. With 618 double-stacked containers weighing 14,089 tons, Union Pacific traveled with a speed of 112km/h from Texas to Los Angeles in 2010.
