Mars Being Populated with Humans

Mars One is a not-for-profit organization that will take humanity to Mars in 2023, to establish the foundation of a permanent settlement from which we will prosper, learn, and grow. Before the first crew lands, Mars One will have established a habitable, sustainable settlement designed to receive astronauts every two years. To accomplish this, Mars One has developed a precise, realistic plan based entirely upon existing technologies. It is both economically and logistically feasible, in motion through the integration of existing suppliers and experts in space exploration.

Investors and television broadcasting rights are financing the colony on Mars that is the project of Mars One, the organization with the Dutch entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp at the head.

People older than 18 can apply from this year, 2013, to be one of 40 space travelers who will be trained in groups of four.

In 2016, roughly 2,5 tons of supplies will be sent to Mars to wait for the arrival of the travelers, and a communication satellite will be launched.

In 2018, a reconnaisance vehicle will find the best spot on Mars for the new home of the Mars citizens.

In 2021, large parts of the living units will be sent to Mars, plus more supplies and another reconnaisance vehicle.

In September of 2022, four of the former earthlings will be sent to Mars. They will be taking water and oxygen along.

The journey should take about seven to eight months.

From 2023, more supplies and food are to be delivered to Mars, while the Mars citizens already arrived will be expanding the settlement as more compartments arrive.

Every two years, four more ex-earthlings will arrive.

For now, new Martians will not have any way to ever visit earth again or return, until such time space transport is further developed and more common.

Each Martian's house will be about fifty square metres in size, with larger communal areas of up to two hundred square metres.

Martians will have to wear space suits outside, as the thinner atmosphere does not protect against the sun's radiation and isn't suitable for breathing.

Earthlings will be able to see the developing Martian country on television.

Mars One is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to establish a human settlement on Mars through the integration of existing, readily available technologies from industry leaders world-wide.

Mars One intends to fund this decade-long endeavor by involving the whole world as the audience of an interactive, televised broadcast of every aspect of this mission, from the astronaut selections and their preparations to the arrival on Mars and their lives on the Red Planet.
